Alright, it's almost time for the 2015 Academy Awards and before we see NPH perform some bullshit musical dance number about the movies of the year, let's celebrate the way men do with some straight up gambling! And with that I present "Handicapping this year's Oscars" by me- JC King! Enjoy!
American Sniper- 9/1
The Imitation Game- 33/1
The Grand Budapest Hotel- 50/1
Theory of Everything- 66/1
OUR BET: Mark my words, there will be an upset either in the Best Picture or Best Director category from Richard Linklater's Boyhood, but for now we're saying the safebet for Best Picture is on Birdman. If you're feeling lucky though I would throw down on Boyhood, which is what I did.
Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu for Birdman- -200
Richard Linklater for Boyhood- +120
Wes Anderson for Grand Budapest Hotel- +2500
Bennett Miller for Foxcatcher- +5000
Morten Tyldum for the Imitation Game- +5000
OUR BET: This is the one we feel the best about for Richard Linklater's Boyhood. He'll definitely get either Best Picture or Best Director, but we the odds on favorite "Birdman" set to pick up Best Picture, this is the one we think could go to Linklater. Again, for the sake of making it worthwhile and making the night exciting, we went with Boyhood for Both Best Picture and Best Director. It will definitely win one of these, most likely this category.
Eddie Redmayne in the Theory of Everything- -350
Michael Keaton in Birdman- +300
Bradley Cooper in American Sniper- +700
Benedict Cumberbatch in the Imitation Game- +2800
Steve Carell in Foxcatcher- +5000
OUR BET: If you ask me this is the sucker bet of the night. It's widely believed Redmayne will walk away with this, but when you consider Michael Keaton's career and the fact he may never be up for an award like this again, consider this a "career" award more than just for Birdman. Keaton deserves and will win this one!
Julianne Moore in Still Alice- -5000
Reese Witherspoon in Wild- +1200
Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl- +2500
Felicity Jones in The Theory of Everything- +4000
Marion Cotillard - Two Days One Night- +5000
OUR BET: This is such a sure thing it's almost not worth betting on, but Julianne Moore will win this thing fo sho!
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
JK Simmons in Whiplash- -5000
Edward Norton in Birdman- +1200
Mark Ruffalo in Foxcatcher- +1600
Ethan Hawke in Boyhood- +3300
Robert Duvall in The Judge- +3300
OUR BET: Again a sure thing- JK Simmons all the way!
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Patricia Arquette in Boyhood- -5000
Emma Stone in Birdman- +1400
Keira Knightley in The Imitation Game- +2500
Laura Dern in Wild- +2500
Meryl Streep in Into the Woods- +2500
OUR BET: 3rd one in a row where it's obvious. Patricia Arquette will become Oscar #2 for Boyhood after Richard Linklater picks up Best Director.
OTHER CATEGORIES WORTH BETTING ON.....
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
The Grand Budapest Hotel- -225
OUR BET: Easy win for Wes Anderson on this one...to be honest, the movie deserves so many more awards, but it will definitely win this one! Go with "Grand Budapest Hotel!"
BEST ORIGINAL SONG
Glory (Selma)- -500
Everything is Awesome (The Lego Movie)- +400
I'm Not Gonna Miss You (Glen Campbell: I'II Be Me)- +900
Lost Stars (Begin Again)- +1000
Grateful (Beyond the Lights)- +3300
OUR BET: The battle of the snubs, both the Lego Movie and Selma deserved more nominations and both got snubbed. The Lego Movie in the Best Animated Feature category and Selma in Best Actor and Best Director categories, so this is make up award for one of the two movies. The question is which movie does the Academy feel was the most "wronged" by the snub. That's why we're going with "The Lego Movie." There's hardly a soul in Hollywood or America for that reason who didn't feel like the Lego Movie was hands down the greatest Animated Film of the year. This is the chance to make things right, plus Everything is Awesome is totally Awesome. Go with "Everything is Awesome" here!
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
How To Train Your Dragon 2- -400
Big Hero 6- +250
Song of the Sea- +1600
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya- +1600
The Boxtrolls- +1800
