Ralph's Reviews: Singer/Songwriter Chris Stapleton Discovered

The 2015 CMA's (Country Music Association) Awards hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood were filled with humor, headlines, and star studded performances. William Shatner even made a cameo, but in the days that followed it was Chris Stapleton that was the topic of conversation. Stapleton stole the night by winning these categories...

  • New Artist of the Year

  • Album of the Year (Traveller)

  • Male Vocalist of the Year

I will be the first to admit that I had not heard of Chris Stapleton, I honestly had no clue who this guy was. Let's just say I am well aware now. Like most I was expecting the more established stars of country music to win the more prestigious categories, but Chris Stapleton came out of nowhere and quickly established himself as an artist.

Chris Stapleton may have been an unknown to the world, but in Nashville he was no secret. In fact, he's been a well known and established songwriter in Nashville. He has written numerous number one songs recorded by the biggest names in country music. The list is pretty lengthy and his credits are endless so I will encourage you to do a web search to learn more about who all has recorded Stapleton's written songs and made them climb the charts to number one. He has co-written with some notable names in country music and from other genres, again I refer you to a web search. I am sure you will be blown away to find out who all has recorded for him and co-written with Chris Stapleton.

For many in the industry country music has gone in the wrong direction, and Stapleton's breakthrough night is a glimmer of hope that country music can get back to it's more traditional roots. The fact that Stapleton has been discovered in the world of music, especially country music proves to the traditionalists that written melodies, ballads and storytelling from the heart and soul is still valued in country music.

On a lighter note Justin Timberlake, Yes the Justin Timberlake rocked it on stage with the star of the night himself Chris Stapleton. Timberlake himself showed off some country flavor that had the crowd and audiences tuning in captivated. There is speculation that Timberlake is working on a country album. Wouldn't that be something, but let's revisit that again at a later date and time. Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton's performance on stage was certainly a highlight of the night and had people talking all about it. I am pretty sure the performance is viral by now.

Back to Chris Stapleton, his album 'Traveller' reached number one on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.

If I had to guess I am sure you will be hearing a lot more from the 37 year old, Kentucky native Chris Stapleton
